Prudential Financial (PRU Quote - Cramer on PRU - Stock Picks) says it fell to a loss in the fourth quarter, hurt by turmoil in the financial markets.
The Newark, N.J.-based insurance and investment firm says its financial services businesses lost $1.64 billion, or $3.85 per share, compared with a profit of $792 million, or $1.75 per share, a year ago.
Thomson Reuters analysts were expecting a loss of $1.19 per share.
The company's individual life and group insurance division posted adjusted operating income of $78 million, compared with $185 million in the prior-year period.
